Karwar: In light of the ongoing heavy rainfall across the district, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ms. K. Lakshmipriya has issued important safety directives, prohibiting the parking of all types of vehicles in areas prone to landslides in Uttara Kannada district.
The DC stated that parking restrictions will be enforced from June 12 until the end of the monsoon season in areas along the National Highway passing through the district where there is a potential risk of landslides. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been directed to install clear warning signs and immediate safety measures at all sensitive locations.
In a separate but related measure, the movement of vehicles and pedestrians has also been restricted on the Talgod–Kondarkeri road near the Bunder, under Mavinkurve Gram Panchayat limits in Bhatkal Taluk. This decision comes in light of abnormally high rainfall in the region, which has significantly increased the risk of hill slopes collapsing.
To prevent any untoward incidents, the district administration has diverted traffic through an alternative route via Bhatkal’s Magdoom Colony. These measures are preventive and will remain in force until the conclusion of the 2025–26 monsoon season.
DC Lakshmipriya emphasized that these steps are crucial for ensuring public safety and preventing damage to life and property during this vulnerable period.
