Haliyal: The district administration took stock of preparations for Haliyal fair of Udachamma and Demavva to be held from 12th April till 17th April.
Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul, who held a meeting with the taluk-level officials recently, instructed Public Works Department engineers to submit a ‘fitness certificate’ of the Ratha (car) and details of the route. When the DC was told that an elephant is being brought to Haliyal for the fair, he instructed.
Forest Department officials to take care of the animal with the help of the Veterinary Department. The Haliyal Town Municipal Council has been directed to take measures to ensure sanitation in the town and adequate drinking water supply.
The DC instructed the TMC officials to place dustbins at various places. He stressed the need for arranging ad-hoc toilets during the fair, with separate provision for women. He asked the taluk health officer to depute health workers during the fair with enough stock of essential medicines. Superintendent of Police Vinayak Patil asked the Jatra committee to take the responsibility of deputing sufficient volunteers in uniform and badges to assist the police.
He sought the cooperation of people to control traffic during the fair. Patil asked the TMC and the police to ensure installation of multi-focal CCTV cameras at the strategic points in the town. The organisers must take all possible measures for peaceful conduct of Honnata, a procession of the deities through streets, so that there will be no law and order problem.
