Gold worth Rs 18.75 lakh seized at Mangaluru International Airport

Mangaluru:  Customs officials at the Mangaluru International Airport of MIA have seized gold worth Rs 18.75 lakh from two passengers on their arrival from Dubai on Monday.

Officials said that two independent seizures by the Officers of Mangalore Air customs has been executed Monday wherein the team has intercepted two passengers named Sukkur Moideen Kunhi (48) hailing from Kasargod and Naseemul Gani (44) from Bhatkal.

They have disembarked from Spicejet & Air India flights respectively. They tried to smuggle gold by concealing in a specially designed footwear and by concealing in the mouth. A total Gold of net weight 405 grams valued at Rs 18.75 lakh was seized. Further investigation is under progress.

The operation was led by Dr. Kapil Gade Deputy Commissioner. Crucial role of surveillance and interception was executed by Rakesh Kumar along with M S Sandeep and Chandramohan Meena who were all superintendent rank officers.
