Vasco: Gold bars weighing around 1.5kg and valued approximately at Rs 57.6 lakh, was seized from a passenger from Dubai at the Goa International Airport at Dabolim on Tuesday.
“Valued at Rs 57.6 lakh, the gold seized was in the form of bars, and concealed in the check-in baggage of the passenger,” said a customs officer.
The passenger, who hails from Bhatkal in Karnataka, had alighted from Oman Air flight from Dubai to Goa Via Muscut.
On Monday, customs sleuths seized 2.9kg of unclaimed gold, worth around Rs 1.1 crore, from the rear toilet of an international flight. The total value of gold seized in Goa in 2019-20, till date is Rs 3.4 crore.The exercise was conducted under the supervision of the commissioner of customs, Mihir Ranjan.
Further investigations are under way.
