Mangaluru: A three-member gang attempted to murder a youth in broad daylight at Masthikatte in Ullal on Wednesday.
The injured is Kamaluddin (25), who works at a beef stall. It was said that Irfan, Mitha Nisar and Jafar barged into the stall and attacked Kamaluddin with knives, rods and bottles. The assailants fled the spot after the attack.
It is learnt that a month before, the same gang had allegedly entered into the stall during the month of Ramadan, had attacked Kamaluddin and decamped with Rs 12,000. Kamaluddin had then lodged a complaint in Ullal police station.
The police had arrested Mukhtar who is still inside the jail. Enraged over their accomplice being in jail, the gang had been threatening Kamaluddin to withdraw the complaint.
It is learnt that Irfan's father, Jaldi Sadique had called Kamaluddin and had even threatened to withdraw the complaint or "else he will be killed." In spite of this, Kamaluddin had not retracted the complaint. The furious gang had barged the slaughterhouse and attempted to finish him off but luckily, the victim escaped their clutches.
The gang along with Siddique had also visited the hospital at Thokkottu, where Kamaluddin is undergoing treatment. The public who saw them, chased them and were able to nab Siddique.
