It may be recalled that on March 7, 2018, at around 9 PM, Muhammad Ansar Channa, a resident of Bhatkal, with his mother, two uncles and his cousin reached Abdul Raheem fuel station and filled the tank with 57 litres of petrol as they were about to leave for Mysore. The car had covered a distance of about one and a half kilometers when suddenly the car broke down, the engine of the car stopped and the car spun to one side. Panicked Ansar, when checked, shockingly it was revealed that the car's tank was filled with a large amount of water along with petrol, which caused the engine to malfunction.
Due to the situation, he had to postpone his journey and bring his family back to Bhatkal. When he reached the concerned petrol pump, there was a long verbal clash with the petrol pump owner. He registered a case against the petrol pump owner at the police station. Meanwhile, car owner Mohammad Ansar also filed a petition in the District Consumer Court at Karwar a few days later, in which he mentioned all the circumstances and said that after his car broke down, he was no longer interested in the car, so he demanded the price of the car should be paid.
After much hearings at the Consumer Court, the court has now pronounced its verdict in which the Consumer Court has ordered petrol pump owners Muhammad Fahiman and Shirajunnisa Mahmood that the car which was damaged due to mixing of water in petrol should be recovered from Mohammad Ansar at a cost of Rs. 15,13,475 and Fifty thousand should be paid separately for the mental distress caused by the incident and ten thousand rupees as the expenses.
Talking to reporters, Muhammad Ansar Channa, said, if something goes wrong with us, we should fight for it according to the law, to get our rights. Struggle for justice may be delayed, but not denied. He expressed happiness over the decision of the Consumer Court in his favor.
