Bhatkal: To resolve the ongoing dispute over the last few years on the 1.25-acre extension area at Survey no. 32a1b in Kargadde in Jali Pattan Panchayat limits, the Forest Department with the help of police protection on Saturday erected iron fences around the land.
The reason for the dispute over this land was that the open land was being used by the youth and children for sports. Meanwhile, the land was also used by Hindus for the cremation of dead bodies.
As many Muslim houses are located around this disputed plot, there were frequent incidents of repetition and tension between the two communities over the cremation of dead bodies in front of the houses in the yard.
Range Forest Officer Savitha Devadiga said that the wire fences have been erected around the plot to prevent the problem from causing sectarian tension and Hindus have been allowed cremating of dead bodies in one corner of the plot on a condition that the people living around the yard should not face inconvenienced in any way during the cremation. Apart from cremation, no other activities will be allowed in the future in this plot.
