Udupi: Artificial floods inundated several areas in Hebri, Brahmavar, Udupi, Byndoor and Kundapura taluks in Udupi district on Tuesday.
Water logging
Due to excess water logging in paddy fields, farmers were worried about losing paddy saplings.
The water level in rivers including Swarna, Seetha and Sauparnika had increased drastically.
Udupi Deputy Commissioner M Kurma Rao had declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Tuesday. He later declared a holiday on Wednesday as well.
Water had entered low-lying areas in Moodanidambur in Udupi, Brahma Baidarkala Garadi and the parking area of Krishna Mutt.
Houses damaged
Many houses were damaged after trees crashed on them in Shiroor and Nada.
Artificial floods were seen at Kollur, Golihole, Ganganadu, Kalthodu, Heroor, Athikone, Kadike Kambalagadde, Badakere, Yaloor, Battekudru, Kuru, Uppinakudru, Haladi, Kandavara, Upladi, Bannadi, Kavadi and Achladi areas.
In the past 24 hours, Udupi received 58.9 mm of rainfall, with Brahmavar receiving 85.9 mm, Kaup - 50.6 mm, Kundapura - 78.8 mm, Byndoor - 67.3 mm, Karkala - 75.6 and Hebri - 141.8 mm of rain.
The passenger of an autorickshaw suffered injuries after a tree crashed on the autorickshaw in Neralakatte. The injured passenger was identified as Rama Ganiga.
Driftwood stuck
With driftwood getting stuck in a vented dam in Uggelbetti, the water had entered low-lying areas in the region.
The road on Chantaru to Uggelbettu via Uppoor remained underwater.
