Udupi: A fight over a silly issue turned life-taking incident at the Karavali Junction here during the wee hours of Sunday, 29th January when two persons were stabbed allegedly by a bike rider.

The deceased has been identified as Haneef (58), a resident of Nittur Udupi. Haneef was self employed as auto driver by profession. The seriously injured Shabbir (55) is admitted to a private hospital in Manipal.

According to the police, Haneef was on his way towards home in his auto along with his relative Shabbir. Since Shabbir was driving on the wrong side of the road, a bike rider stopped and questioned Haneef, why was he driving his autorickshaw on the wrong side of the road? A quarrel broke out and Haneef was stabbed by the bike rider. When Shabbir, tried to intervene, he too was assaulted by the rider. Both were rushed to the hospital but Haneef breathed his last on the way.

A case has been registered in Udupi Town police station​​​​​​ and further investigations are on.
