Karwar: MLC S L Ghotnekar held discussions with Additional Deputy Commissioner H Prasanna with regard to non reciept of insurance amount by farmers who had insured their crops under Fasal Bima Yojana, in Karwar, on thursday, 9th March.

He said Prasanna that the farmers were in dire financial difficulties as they are yet to recieve the insurance amount and asked him to solve the probem immediately. The entire amount under the scheme to be paid to the farmers who had lost their crops had been recieved.  But the amount had not been paid to the farmers who have not opened the accounts.

There are 49,000 beneficiaries under the scheme, and 300 farmers are yet to open the accounts. The responsibility of opening the account resists with the each taluk society. But the responsibility has now been entrusted to KDCC Bank. The bank would make all the efforts to open the remaining account before the end of March.

The district administration should make more efforts to get the insurance amount credited into the account of farmers, the MLC stated. Additional Deputy Commisioner replied that most of the accounts had not been linked to Aadhaar numbers. It is essential to get this completed before the proceed could be credited.

The additional deputy commissioner, however, assured that he would look into the matter, and get the amount credited into the farmers accounts at the earliest.
