Haliyal: MLC S L Ghotnekar is not satisfied with the APMC results in Haliyal where Congress-backed candidates won six out of 11 seats in the taluk.

Talking with reporters, Ghotnekar said that the overall poll result was not expected by the party. According to him, apart from the six candidates supported by the Congress, one more candidate was elected unopposed. With this, the Congress-backed candidates are sure to capture power in the APMC. But the fact is that the party had expected to win more seats.

"Farmers, who were the voters of the APMC elections, had let the Congress down despite party leader R V Deshpande taking up various pro-farmers works," Ghotnekar said. On taluk tag to Dandeli, Ghotnekar said, "The demand has merit and deserves to be fulfilled. Even Deshpande is convinced that the Dandeli should become a new taluk of Uttara Kannada district."
