Ensure Sirsi is plastic-free, DC directs CMC officials

Sirsi: Deputy Commissioner SS Nakul has directed the Sirsi city municipal council (CMC) commissioner to make Sirsi plastic-free before August 15 and submit a report in this regard.

Speaking at the Janaspandana meeting held in Sirsi on Thursday, the deputy commissioner discussed various development issues. He said CMC has Rs 30 lakh under the three percent funds and should be used to install a lift in the Mini Vidhan Soudha for the benefit of senior citizens, physically challenged and others. He said, beneficiaries for Gruha Bhagya scheme meant for pourakarmikas (civic workers) must be selected.

Zilla Panchayat member GN Hegde complained that people are finding it tough to renew their gun license. He, therefore, demanded simplification of the gun license renewal and said that the documents of 35 persons sent for renewal of gun license have been lost, the DC responded that if the documents have been lost due to the negligence of the department, the officers concerned must set the situation right.

Zilla panchayat member Usha Hegde complained about delays in sanction of funds to take up various works in the zilla panchayat under the funds of MLAs and MPs.

At the meeting, many people appealed for extension of bus services and better bus facilities for school children to Kalmane area and complained about problems associated with implementation of e-Swathu in rural areas. He directed authorities to submit a report within 15 days regarding steps taken to solve these problems and instructed the tahsildar to conduct a survey and take steps to plug loopholes within 45 days.
