Educated cause more damage to environment, says Judge

Karwar: With the increasing pollution and massive destruction of trees is affecting the environment badly. We, humans, especially, the educated people are in forefront in casusing damage to the nature for our selfishness, stated Principal District and Sessions Judge Narayan.

He noted this while speaking after inaugurating the World Environment Day programme in the City on Thursday.

He said, in ancient times, the practice of worshipping trees was very popular. However, during the Mughals administration, trees were chopped, as they were worried about business but not the conservation of trees and environment. Since then nature is being affected through one or the other reasons.

It is the need of the hour to create awareness among the school and college going children about protection and conservation of nature, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner K Harish Kumar said, we are destroying the earth, considering it as our own property. 

In a place like Mount Everest, tonnes of garbage is being collected. There is nothing left for human to damage and decline, he said and added that it is the need of the hour to protect the environment to 
facilitate the coming generations, he said.

Adventures Welfare School Planning Director Nomito Kamdar said, there are hundreds of ways for the conservation of the environment, and the first way is to believe that nature is belonging to all of us and hence, we have to take care of it.

Assistant Conservator of Forest Manjunath Navi said, there is an aim for planting one lakh saplings in the district within a year. As part of it, 500 saplings each will be planted in all the villages across the district. Other than this, vanamahotsava will be celebrated in every school, he added.

Meanwhile, prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions.

Senior Civil Judge T Govindayya, SP Vinayak Patil, Pollution Control Board Environment Officer Vijaya Hegde, Public Instruction Department Deputy Director Manjunath, and others were present on the occasion. Deputy Range Forest Officer K V Vasanth Reddy presided over the event.
