Mangaluru: Charging Mangaluru City Corporation with selecting several ineligible people for allotting houses, members of the Niveshana Rahita Horata Samiti have threatened to launch an indefinite protest from April 24 seeking removal of those persons.
Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, CPI(M) Mangaluru South unit secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal said that several people with income more than Rs. 50,000 per month are among the 2,000 identified as houseless for whom houses are to be built. Several poor people staying on rented premises, widows, physically disabled persons and those from the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and backward classes have been left out from the list.
Mr. Bajal said that discrepancies were more on the list pertaining to Mangaluru City South and Mangaluru City North Assembly constituencies. Despite representations and memoranda to correct them, the authorities concerned have not taken any action. Therefore, the samiti has resolved to launch the indefinite protest near the corporation office from April 24 demanding removal of ineligible beneficiaries from the list.
