Karwar: The administration of Uttara Kannada district has been taking several precautionary measures to check Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) from entering the district.
Deputy Commissioner K Harish Kumar has directed all the officers concerned to be alert and take precautionary measures in all tourist destinations in the district and ports, especially Karwar commercial port.
A meeting in this regard was held at the deputy commissioner's office in Karwar on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by the district health & family welfare officer, district hospital heads, medical college heads, navy officers and port officers.
"Several foreign ships come to Karwar commercial port every day. Therefore, the officers and staff there must be alert. Those working in the ship must compulsorily undergo a medical check-up. Details of the check-up must be sent to the office of the district health officer who, in turn, will forward the details to the State government," the DC said.
Zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Roshan said that Gokarna in the district draws a number of foreign tourists. Therefore, a team of doctors must be formed so that it visits door-to-door to create awareness on Covid-19.
Superintendent of Police Shivaprakash Devaraju said that the Police Department was cautious and had taken all measures that it could take to prevent Covid-19. Passengers coming from Goa and Mangaluru airports will being checked with the help of the medical team.
100 beds to dist hospital
Seabird Navy Base Officer informed that the Navy Base had adequate medical facilities including beds at its hospital for treating patients in case of suspected Covid-19. Therefore, it was ready to provide 100 beds to the district hospital.
The officer said that the Navy had already initiated several precautionary measures including medical check-up of passengers and mariners coming from foreign countries. Safer side, medical teams have been deputed in advance in these ships.
