Mangaluru: MLA U T Khader on Monday said that the court had passed a stay order on the housing project at Ombathukere.

“The project was launched in 2000 to construct houses for 390 beneficiaries. The locals, who were apprehensive that the housing project will pollute the Ombathukere lake, have approached the court. The court passed a stay order and issued directions to complete the underground drainage works to prevent pollution of lake,” he added.

The MLA also said the UGD work had begun.

He said, “As an MLA, I had proposed to construct apartments in the site. I have even recommended to the government to construct double bedroom flats. I will appeal to Housing Minister Somanna to complete the project.”

The MLA said that the government had purchased land by paying Rs 9,000 per cent of land to implement the housing project in Ombathukere in 2000.

Now, the value of land is between Rs 6 lakh to Rs 7 lakh per cent of land.

The purchased land had remained a government property. “It is not right to compare the housing project to the pending work on Pumpwell flyover,” he stressed.
