Bangalore: A food truck owner was beaten up by a corporator who also asked him to remove the vehicle. The incident took place at 27th Main in HSR Layout on Thursday night.

According to the police, the victim Shakthi Subbarao, owner of Gypsy Kitchen, a food truck, sustained bruises. On Thursday evening, HSR Layout corporator Gurumurthy Reddy approached Subbarao and asked him to remove the vehicle, saying it was causing a nuisance.

Around 10.45 pm, Reddy came back and found the truck still there and started abusing Subbarao and left the place. After a few minutes, he came back with five others and thrashed Subbarao, police said. The public intervened and took Subbarao to safety, said the police.

The HSR Layout police, who were informed, rushed to spot and took stock of the situation. Subbarao filed a complaint against Reddy and five other unknown persons. The corporator said he had been repeatedly asking Subbarao to remove the truck as the locals complained of littering and haphazard parking by his customers. Police said they are investigating and action will be taken against the corporator, police said.

A case has been registered under section 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace ) and 507 (Criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication ) IPC.

Meanwhile, Reddy categorically refuted the charges levelled by Subbarao. He said he was passing from the 27th Main Road when he saw some people beating a man. “I rushed to his rescue and prevented him from being roughed up. I am not a mad man to go on assaulting people,” Reddy added.
