Congress captures 5 APMCs in Uttara Kannada

Karwar: Congress captured power in five APMCs against the total of six APMCs in Uttara Kannada district during the APMC election for which the counting was held on Saturday.

Of the total 82 seats in the six APMCs, 25 candidates were already elected unopposed. Elections were held for the remaining 57 seats. Of the 57 seats, which went for election, 44 Congress backed candidates registered a win, while 26 BJP backed candidates and six JD(S) backed candidates registered victory. Six seats were won by independent candidates. Against six APMCs in the district, Congress captured power in Karwar, Honnavar, Yellapur, Siddapur and Haliyal APMCs. However, no party has bagged clear majority in the Kumta APMC.

Reacting to this, MLA Satish Sail stated that the good works by the Congress has ensured win to the candidates backed by the party. In Karwar APMC, against a total of 13 seats, seven seats are bagged by Congress and the administration is with us. In the coming days, more developmental works will be launched in the APMCs, he added.
