Mangaluru: Citizens should become ambassadors for protecting animals and the environment, said Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V.
He was speaking during Prani Raksha Jagruthi Samavesha organised by Jilla Prani Daya Sangha and SDM Law College recently.
“All come forward to rescue people who are in distress during natural calamities. There is a need to rescue animals that are in distress as well,” he said.
Prani Daya Sangha members are engaged in rescuing animals in distress. When the forest is destroyed, animals stray into villages. There is a need to maintain balance in nature, he said.
There is a need to create awareness among children about wild animals, birds and naturally available resources, he added.
“We have to understand the fact that the forest is destroyed by humans. Along with protecting domestic animals, there is a need to protect wild animals as well. All of us should become ambassadors of protecting nature and animals,” said Dr Rajendra.
“We all have a responsibility to pass on the environment to the future generation,” he said.
