Citizens can get e-khata within 10 days of submitting applications

Mangaluru: The residents in the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) limits will get the e-khata in the form of a modified version, within seven to 10 days of submitting applications.

The new version will be made available to public from September 12.

“After looking at the success of the E-governance Department’s e-aasthi software in the district, it will be extended to all corporations in the state,” MCC Commissioner Akshy Sridhar told reporters at the MCC hall on Wednesday.

Since the launch of the e-aasthi in 2020, the MCC has issued 23,000 e-khatas.

Many technical glitches were hampering the process. It took more than two to three months for issuing e-khata.

The server of e-aasthi was with the Karnataka Municipal Data Society but now the existing database and service is being migrated to the state data centre of the National Informatics Centre.

The new e-aasthi version is citizen centric. From the department, it moves to the citizens for the initiation of application and identifying the property on ground.

A user-friendly map based mobile application is designed to be used by the citizens for locating their respective properties and applying for khata.

Using the link https://eaasthi.karnataka.gov.in/citizen/,  the applicants have to upload the photo of the property from spot for applying for e-khata.

The MCC already has a comprehensive list of properties in its jurisdiction, including a drone survey map of 20 wards that was conducted as part of the waterfront project.

After uploading the property photo, the applicant has to visit the MangaluruOne and apply for e-khata.

The Mangalore One centre, enabled with an e-aasthi software, will receive the application from applicants who have located their properties on the map. The supporting documents, including the title deeds, are uploaded to the software. The documents are dispatched to a specified section in the MCC where it is processed within the time frame.

The applications, based on the size of the property, is delegated to appropriate officers and the e-khata will be issued within 10 days. The approved e-khata can be downloaded from the portal, he said.

Mangaluru Mayor Premananda Shetty said earlier that officials had to visit the spot for surveying the property. As there is a shortage of staff, it was taking a long time to process it. Further, there was an issue with the server as well, he said.

‘’After the problems in issuing e-khata was drawn to the notice of the government, District In-charge secretary V Ponnuraj chaired a meeting in Mangaluru and decided to implement the modified software in Mangaluru as a pilot project,’’ he said.

There are some applications of e-khata pending to be processed, which will be completed by this weekend, he added. MLAs Vedavyasa Kamath and Dr Y Bharath Shetty were present.
