Bhatkal: A stray dog attacked a 20-month-old baby and scratched his nose, leaving the innocent child critically injured. He has been taken to Udupi hospital. The incident took place at around 3 PM in Dongarpalli of Bhatkal Municipal limits when he was playing in the compound outside the house.
The boy's father, Zakir Siddibapa, said, his 20-month-old son, Ismail Taimur, was playing outside the house when the incident happened. As soon as the dog attacked, the family members came out and rescued the child from the dog and took him to Bhatkal taluka Government Hospital. Necessary injections have been given in the hospital. As the dog slammed into the child's nose, the child was taken first to Kundapur and then to Udupi hospital for advanced treatment.
Locals say the growing population of dogs in almost all areas of Bhatkal, including Dongar Palli, has made it difficult for people to walk on the roads. Yousuf Belli, a Dongar Pali resident, said people in their area and surrounding areas were disturbed by the herd of dogs, and a complaint had been lodged to Bhatkal Municipality through the local councillor. He urged the municipal authorities to launch a campaign to catch the dogs and take appropriate action to protect the public from dog attacks.
