Udupi: Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha has directed the health department to take measures to check the spread of Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) in the district. The presence of KFD has already been confirmed in the neighbouring Shivamogga district, he added.

Chairing a meeting, the deputy commissioner directed the officials to create awareness about the disease among people living on the periphery of the forest.

Samples of monkeys found dead in forest should be collected and tested.

Posters on the prevention of the KFD should be distributed in gram panchayats and primary health centres, Jagadeesha added.
