Karwar: The district administration will install 16 CCTV cameras in and around the Mayuravarma Vedike on Ravindranath Tagore beach to ensure tight vigil during the three-day Karavali Utsav-2016 which will start on December 10.
Apart from 500 police personnel, crime specialists from other districts will be deployed. The police are making arrangements to erect eight watch towers on the main road. It will also set up two police outposts temporarily near the arch on the beach and Mayuravarma Vedike.
In case people face any problem, they can approach these outposts and get the police help. Over 80,000 people from Uttara Kannada and neighboring districts, besides Goa, are expected to visit Karwar for the Utsav. Local, national and international, Bollywood and Sandalwood artistes will perform at the Mayuravarma Vedike.
Additional Deputy Commissioner H Prasanna told reporters: “Ensuring security is one of our prime priorities. The district administration will install CCTV cameras at main junctions where people will gather. We have spoken to the police to erect watch towers to keep an eye on public and they will set up towers in eight places.”
The City Municipal Council has started asphalting main roads. The roads leading to the Mayuravarma Vedike is getting a new look. Local people, who were worried about the pothole-filled road, are now happy with the Council’s action.
