Sirsi (DHNS) : Environmentalist and science writer Nagesh has called upon more efforts to increase rainfall on the lines of increasing the trees which help bring more rains.

“There is a need to make efforts like Bhagirath (who, as per mythology, brought Ganga river from heaven to earth) to ensure that the rain water seeps into the earth,” he said.

He noted this while delivering a special lecture on groundwater at a programme organized by Sirsi’s ‘Jeeva Jala Karya Pade’ at Anehonda Nisarga Vedike on Monday.

He said, humans are heavily dependent on the petroleum is stopped one day. Humans should give more importance to another liquid which flows freely on the earth. A huge campaign should be launched in all the media to increase awareness about its importance.

The predatory nature and greediness of the humans have upset the balance which the nature had been able to maintain for millions of years before the appearance of the humans. Now, his greedy eyes have fallen on the water, which has played a significant role in giving birth to life, he regretted.

He blamed the present education system and the values with which the parents bring up their children for the sorry state of affairs.
