BHATKAL: A one-and-a-half-year-old boy was killed and more than 10 passengers were injured when a state-run bus and a lorry collided head-on on National Highway 66 near Belse village in Ankola taluk on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Archith Tandel. According to sources, the bus was travelling from Kumta towards Ankola when it collided with the lorry coming from the opposite direction.
The impact caused extensive damage to the front portions of both vehicles and left several bus passengers injured.
The drivers of both the bus and the lorry were among those seriously injured. They were taken to a nearby hospital for initial treatment and later shifted to KRIMS Hospital in Karwar for further treatment.
Other injured passengers are undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Ankola police reached the spot soon after the accident and inspected the scene. Traffic on NH 66 was disrupted for some time following the collision. Police are investigating the incident.
