Karwar: A couple was injured after a boulder slipped from the hill top and hit their moving van on National Highway 66 near Kali River bridge in Karwar, on Thursday.

The injured have been identified as Javed Mohammed Shafi Sheikh and his wife Ruksara Sheikh of Dandeli.

Both arte employees at a hotel in Goa and were on their way from Karwar to Goa when the mishap took place.

According to the police, a boulder slipped and rolled down the hill before hitting the van.

Both suffered injuries on their hands and have been treated at Primary Health Center and shifted to Goa for further medical assistance.

On getting information Deputy Commissioner SS Nakul and Additional Deputy Commissioner H Prasanna visited the spot and spoke the injured.

Under Natural Calamities Fund, both were paid a compensation of Rs 4300 each. The IRB Company which has taken up road work has been asked to pay the medical expenses. A case is registered at Chittakul Police station.
