Yellapur: To protest against the state government for not permitting the bike rally, BJP workers in Yellapur on Tuesday pelted stones on a government bus and damaged window panes. Thousands of protesters from various taluks of Uttara Kannada district gathered at Yellapur and burnt and effigy of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Condemning the murders of Hindu activists in Dakshina Kannada district, BJP Yuva Morcha organized the ‘Mangaluru Chalo’ bike rally from various parts of the state. The protest from Hubballi came to Yellapur by giving a slip to the Hubballi police and joined the protest. When the situation appeared to go out of control, the police detained BJP leaders Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, Sunil Hegde, Rama Raikar and hundreds of party workers.
Hundreds of bikes and private vehicles form Sirsi, Siddapur, Mundgod, Haliyal, Ankola and other taluks arrived to the Yellapur town to hold the rally. Hundreds of women too participated in the protest.
Earlier, addressing the gathering, Kageri said, “We will not stop Mangaluru Chalo rally, and we are ready to face any kind of situation that comes before our rally. Even we are ready to go jail, but we will not step back from the rally,”
BJP Yuva Morcha leader Manjunath Jannu said,” On Wednesday evening, we will take up the bike rally to Mangaluru. If police prevents us, we will go to Mangaluru in private vehicles and buses. Nearly 500 people from Uttara Kannada will go to Mangaluru."
