Sirsi: The ‘Modi wave’ which swept the country during the Lok Sabha elections has indirectly influenced the elections to Urban Local Bodies (ULB) in Uttara Kannada district, the polling for which was held recently. While BJP candidates got a clear majority in Honnavar and Siddapur.

Siddapur Town Panchayat

In the previous House, six BJP, six Congress and two independents held the reigns in Siddapur Town Panchayat. In the first term, Congress came to power while in the second term, BJP along with the support of independents formed the body. But this time, BJP got a clear majority by winning 14 seats. While the Congress candidates bagged one seat, JD(S) faced embarrassment as it failed to bag even a single seat.

Honnavar Town Panchayat

In Honnavar Town Panchayat, Congress which was in power in the previous term managed to get only one seat this time.

The people who supported BJP candidates in the Assembly as well as the Lok Sabha elections once again gave thumbs up to BJP in the ULB election too.

By winning 12 seats, the BJP wave swept the Congress.
