Bhatkal: Bibi Shameem Peerzade has been elected as the new President of Jali Pattan Panchayat, while Farhana Irshad Ikkeri (Data) elected for the post of Vice President. Both the candidates are Tanzeem-backed and were elected unopposed.

Bibi Shameem, who was elected from Jali Panchayat for the third time, has previously been the Vice President for one term and President in the next term. Now, after transferring Jali to Pattan Panchayat, she has been elected President for the first time. 

It may be recalled, Jali Pattan Panchayat comprising of 20 councilors, the number of candidates registered as independents with the support of the Tanzeem are 11, while there are 6 councilors of Congress party and 3 councilors of BJP. This time the seats were reserved for the general ladies for the President and for the backward class ladies for Vice President.

Majlise Islah Wa Tanzeem on Sunday fielded Bibi Shameem as President and Farhana as Vice-President for the election in its executive meeting, who won unopposed as expected.
