Bhatkal: With the intention to create awareness regarding govern ment schemes and benefits, as also ensure that the needy are benefitted, Uttara Kannada administration stationed itself in Hadavalli, a remote place in the district.
The village wore a festive look with the gathering of over 3,000 people on Saturday. They had assembled for the popular programme, 'Zilladhikarigala Nade Halli Kade' (Deputy Commissioner towards villages). The entire Revenue department of the district was present on this occasion. This being the first ever programme of officer Muhilan after taking over as DC, he participated in the event with great enthusiasm. "I will be here for the whole day, from morning till evening. I will hear all your grievance and resolve them on the spot," he said,
Speaking to reporters, the DC said that with the village be ing far from headquarters, the villagers end up spending time and money to come to the district headquarters. We will up date them about our various schemes and provide monetary assistance as also resolve their problems,” he said.
He personally gathered infor mation from his officers and resolved problems pertaining to land records, pension and other government schemes. The district administration also conducted a free health camp for the villagers and cre ated awareness pertaining to disease like dengue, malaria, elephantiasis, chikungunya and others.
This being a big event for the village with a population of 3,486, the residents used the op portunity well. "This is like a dream come true, as travelling the four-hour journey to Kar war after changing two busses and then not being sure if we get to meet the required official is all very painful,” said Jay anth Bonda, a local.
