Bhatkal: One person was arrested for allegedly trying to create disharmony in the society by lodging a false police complaint in Bhatkal on Friday.

The arrested person was identified as Naveen Naik from Shirali village.

According to sources the accused was injured after a fight with one of his associates over petty issues.

Later, Naveen lodged an FIR with Murdeshwar police station on Thursday claiming that he was assaulted by persons of another community. However, during the investigation, the police found that it was a false case.

When grilled, Naveen had confessed that he complained to create a rift between the two communities in the sensitive town of Bhatkal.

Murdeshwar and Bhatkal Rural Police jointly grilled Naveen to find out his motive.

Naveen wanted to make it a big issue and create communal tension, the police said.
