Bhatkal: Police have detained a 20-year-old youth for allegedly consuming ganja at a public place near Murdeshwar beach in Bhatkal taluk.
The accused, identified as Mohammed Kaif, a resident of Hiredomi in Murdeshwar, was found in a suspicious condition and taken into custody, police said. He was later examined at the Bhatkal Taluk Government Hospital, where tests reportedly confirmed drug consumption.
A case has been registered at Murdeshwar Police Station, and PSI Hanumanth Biradar is investigating.
The incident comes amid increasing reports of narcotics consumption and supply in Bhatkal and surrounding areas.
Police said such activities, once confined to specific pockets, are now being reported from multiple locations, particularly along coastal stretches.
Officials have also received inputs that tourists are being targeted for the supply of narcotic substances. Surveillance has been intensified, and police said action will continue against those involved.
