Bhatkal: Bhatkal Tahsildar with the help of local police demolished a house at Heble grama panchayat limit alleging it to be built on the encroached lands (survey number 403). However, the residence of the demolished house, Haleema Khatoon, accused the officers for tearing down the wrong house.

Tahsildar V N Badkar, swiftly acting upon the higher officers orders, arrived at the spot with local police and other revenue officials. Locals tried to stall the demolitions but the officers rejecting the public appeal, tore down the house with the aid of JCB.

Speaking to the mediapersons, Haleema Khatoon asserted that she was residing on the land (survey number 405) and the officials have sent the notice on Thursday to demolish the land coming under survey number 403. The notice from tahsildar stated that the land under survey number 403 should be vacated.

According to Haleema, most of the houses built on the wasteland are illegally constructed but the officers have only targetted her house. She questioned whether it was because she was from a particular community. 

The distressed woman went on to add that she had brought the land for Rs 8.4 lakhs and was residing with her 4 children since a year. 

She also alleged the officers for nepotism since a lot of people from other faiths are residing on the encroached lands.

When asked about the error, tahsildar V N Badkar countered back asking whether the house is built on the encroached government land or not. When asked if he will demolish the house built on survey number 403 as mentioned in the notice, he responded that they had just followed the legal orders.

Bhatkal PSI Revathi, PSI Kudgunti, PSI Manjappa along with other police pesons had made a strict police bandobast around the place.
