Bhatkal: Residents of Makhdum Colony, Ward 3, under the Town Municipal Council, submitted a memorandum to the municipal in-charge president, Muhiddin Altaf Kharuri, and the in-charge chief officer, Venktesh Nauda. They expressed dissatisfaction with the poor state of cleanliness in their area and urged the authorities to take immediate action to clean the drains.
The memorandum highlighted that the drains in Gulzar Street, intended for rainwater drainage, are clogged with waste and have not been cleaned for several months. Residents complained that while some debris and silt have been removed from the drains, it has been left on the sides and not transported away. When questioned, municipal staff attributed the delay to a lack of vehicles.
Residents also alleged negligence by Ward Councilor Priya Fernandez, accusing her of ignoring the area’s issues. They claimed that she neither visits the area nor answers phone calls, making it difficult for residents to communicate their grievances and seek solutions.
In their memorandum, the residents urged municipal authorities to take immediate and effective steps to address the sanitation issues and ensure proper cleanliness in the area.
Shariq Khan, Mujeeb Gangawali, Maulana Irfan, Zarrar, Maula, Aslam, Mushtaq Muda, Ibrahim, and Sadiq were among those present during the submission of the memorandum.
