Bhatkal: Red alert in Uttara Kannada: Schools and anganwadis to remain closed on June 17

Bhatkal: Following a red alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for heavy rainfall in Uttara Kannada district on June 16 and 17, Deputy Commissioner Lakshmi Priya has declared a holiday for anganwadis, primary, and high schools across eight taluks for June 17 (Tuesday).

The decision applies to the taluks of Karwar, Ankola, Kumta, Honnavar, Bhatkal, Sirsi, Siddapur, and Yellapur. It comes in light of continued heavy rainfall and the potential risk to children's safety, as referenced in official communications from the school education department and the department of women and child development.

The order was issued under Section 34(m) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, empowering the deputy commissioner to take preventive measures for public safety.

All schools and anganwadis in the mentioned taluks are instructed to remain closed on June 17. The concerned departments have been directed to enforce the order strictly and adjust the academic calendar accordingly.
