Bhatka: A 45-year-old man from Bhatkal sustained serious injuries after his scooter was hit from behind by a speeding car on the Manki National Highway-66 on Monday afternoon.
The accident occurred at around 2:30 pm when the victim, identified as Inayatullah Bengali, a resident of Tenginagundi in Bhatkal, was on his way to Honnavar to supply flowers on his Burgman scooter.
According to sources, a car approaching from behind rammed into the scooter, causing him to be thrown onto the vehicle, while his helmet was flung away due to the impact. Despite wearing a helmet, he suffered severe head injuries.
He was initially rushed to the Manki Government Hospital, and later shifted to Bhatkal Government Hospital. He was subsequently referred to a private hospital in Mangaluru for advanced treatment.
Sources said that the occupants of the same car involved in the accident helped in immediately shifting the injured to the hospital.
A case has been registered at Manki Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
