Bhatkal: The much-awaited two-day Bhatkal inter-school under-17 volleyball tournament began with great enthusiasm and vibrant celebrations at the prestigious Naunihal Central School, Bhatkal, on Thursday. A total of eight teams are participating in the tournament, divided into two groups. The league matches played on the first day entertained both the students and the spectators immensely.
The tournament’s beautiful trophies were unveiled during the inaugural ceremony by the school’s Vice Chairman, Aouf Kola, and Treasurer, Abdullah Kola. Speaking on the occasion, Abdullah Kola highlighted the importance of sports, emphasizing that they not only foster friendship and brotherhood but also help maintain physical fitness. He remarked that one of volleyball's unique features is its quick results, making the matches exciting to watch. He further added that volleyball improves teamwork and decision-making skills. Kola encouraged students and youth to actively participate in such games to enhance their potential and abilities.
In the league matches held on the first day, Group A saw Sonarkeri Government School and Shivashantika School securing their spots in the semi-finals, while Group B had New Shams School and Islamia Anglo Urdu High School qualifying for the semi-finals.
The second and final day of the tournament will take place tomorrow, Friday, featuring the semi-finals and finals. These matches are expected to be highly thrilling and engaging. It is worth noting that the winning team will be awarded a beautiful trophy along with a cash prize of ₹4,444, while the runners-up will receive ₹2,222 as their prize.
