Bhatkal: A house was burgled in broad daylight at Kaikini in Bhatkal, with unidentified burglars allegedly breaking open the rear door and stealing gold ornaments, silver articles and cash worth around Rs 17.50 lakh.
Rajesh, son of Kuppayya Shetty, a lecturer and resident of Kaikini, has lodged a complaint with the Murdeshwar police stating that he left for college with his wife at around 8.45 am and returned home at around 12.55 pm.
With no one at home for nearly four hours, unidentified burglars allegedly took advantage of the absence, broke open the rear door with a hard object and entered the house. They then broke open a cupboard in the bedroom and fled with gold ornaments worth around Rs 13.50 lakh, silver articles valued at Rs 1 lakh and Rs 3 lakh in cash.
Rajesh noticed the broken door and the missing valuables after returning home and subsequently informed the police.
The Murdeshwar police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the accused.
