Bhatkal: The pumping of the foul and dirty drainage water into the Sharabi river has made the life of the residents intolerable as the smell from the river is extremely pungent and disgusting. The residents are now knocking on the doors of the municipality and other responsible organizations urging for immediate solutions.
Situation are arising after all the four pumps fitted at pumping station in Gousia street had become ruined, through which the dirty water which previously flowed to Venktapur river, is now making its way on to the Sharabi river making the life of residents extremely difficult.
The residents of the area said that the motors from the pumping station had been not working since a month, and the issue of filthy water being pumped into the Sharabi river was hidden since a month which they were not aware off. When the dirty and filthy smell rised up from Sharabi river due to pumping of drainage water, the enraged residents complained to the responsible representatives, leaders and organisations and made them come in motion for an immediate solution. It may be noted that, due to the pumping of filthy water into Sharabi river, the other streets like Mushma street, Gousia street, Kazia street, Khalifa street, Dongerpalli including Muttalli too were affected and caused all the water wells located in these streets to get ruined after dirty drainage water entered these wells.
It is also noted that, through Sharabi river, a water-route has been made till Arabian sea, where the fishermen go through this for fishing, which inturn made them too face inconvenience for their daily surviving. A threatening and fearistic atmosphere also have arised among the fishermen due to this incident. After all this commotion, questions rise up among the residents who are observing silence by the responsible muncipal department.
President of the Bhatkal's social organization, Majlis e Islah Wa Tanzeem, Mr. Muzammil Kazia in Bengaluru met and discussed this issue with the Urban development minister Roshan Baig. Responding to the need, minister Roshan Baig informed that he will be visiting Bhatkal on 4th February and will be addressing the meet with higher officials and will immediately take up the follow-up action to solve the problems.
It should be noted that, the government along with the higher officials including social organizations of the town, since last 10 years are only involved in promising the residents to solve the problems of the town, which have yet to be practical. Chief minister of Karnataka, Siddaramiah who had arrived in Bhatkal during Tanzeem's centenary program, had promised to fulfill the requirements of Bhatkal people, which is still pending.
