Bhatkal: An orientation programme on the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination was organised at Anjuman Arts, Science and Commerce College in Bhatkal to familiarise undergraduate students with the civil services and guide them on career planning.
The programme was organised by the college’s Student Welfare Wing in collaboration with Rabita Society, Bhatkal, with academic support from ACE IAS Academy, Mangaluru. More than 100 students from BA, BCom and BSc courses attended the programme.
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Bhatkal Sub-Division, Ranu Gupta, IPS, was the chief guest. He spoke about his journey into the civil services and explained the eligibility criteria and preparation required for services such as the Indian Police Service. He also briefed students on the four General Studies papers in the Main Examination and the examination schedule.
Addressing concerns over favouritism in civil services recruitment, Gupta said the selection process was not influenced by caste, creed or religion.
Ammar Ahsan Sayeed, Associate Director of ACE IAS Academy, explained the structure of the Civil Services Examination, comprising the Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Personality Test. He spoke about eligibility requirements, preparation strategies, coaching and self-study, selection of newspapers and reference books, and concise note-making.
Yunus Kazia, president of Anjuman Hami-e-Muslimeen, presided over the programme and urged students to remain consistent and responsible in their studies and remain alert to emerging opportunities. He assured them of the management’s support.
The programme began with a Quranic recitation, followed by a welcome address by Prof. Mushtaq Bhavikatti. Prof. Mohammed Ganim compered the programme. College Principal Yusuf Kola proposed the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with the National Anthem and a feedback session.
