Bhatkal: A memorandum was submitted by the 'Bhatkal Citizens Forum' to the state governor through Bhatkal Assistant Commissioner against the hike in electricity prices, demanding withdrawal of the decision.
The memorandum said that the state government's decision to allow power companies to increase the price of electricity by 40 Paisa per unit was a huge burden for the financially distressed middle and lower class people. On the one hand, the Corona pandemic has already caused financial hardship to the people. The poor have become impoverished due to lack of jobs and wages. In such a situation, it is totally inappropriate to impose the burden of increase in electricity prices on them.
In the memorandum, it was also demanded that the government should withdraw the hike in electricity prices, waive the interest and fines of the people who are mired with bank loans and also waive the electricity bill for at least five months.
Bhatkal Assistant Commissioner Mr. Bharath accepted the memorandum. On this occasion Citizens Forum President Divya Naik, Secretary Pascal Gomez, Shridhar Naik, Soumia Gonda, Nagesh Devadiga and others were present.
