Beaches in Karnataka to get a facelift: U T Khader

Mangaluru: Minister for food, civil supplies and consumer affairs, UT Khader has announced that the long pending proposal to develop Thalappady, Someshwar and Ullal beaches into tourist destinations will soon be a reality.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said that various tourism infrastructure will be developed at Thalappady beach at an estimated cost of Rs 3.51 crore, beaches of Someshwar and Ullal will be developed spending Rs 3.32 crore and Rs 1.89 crore respectively.

Watch towers, approach roads, pedestrian pathways, seating, landscaping, hi-mast lamps, sign boards, shelter sheds, rescue facilities and other infrastructure will be developed at three beach stretches in Mangaluru constituency. Work will be commenced soon after the proposal was approved, Khader said and added that the estimate prepared by the Karnataka Land Army Corporation to develop three beaches may get administrative approval within a week.

He also declared that 30 water purification plants (WPP) would be set up at various places in Mangaluru and Bantwal constituencies  having more than 1,000 population. The WPPs will supply 20 litres of pure drinking water to all nearby houses at Rs 10, he added.
