Bantwal: Some unidentified thieves sneaked into the Sacred Heart Church at Shambhoor in the taluk and stole cash and goods worth lakhs on 1st May, Monday.
According to the sources, the thieves took around Rs.1.5 lac in cash along with a laptop worth around Rs.10,000, a tab valued at Rs.5,000, a two-sovereign golden chain and two Seiko watches.
The incident occured when the parish priest of the church Fr Jerald Pinto was away due to official work. He had left for Mangaluru on Monday evening and when he returned next morning, he found that the lock on the front door was broken.
He rushed in and found out that cash and valuables had been stolen, and the church office had been ransacked. He then called the police.
After conducting spot investigation, they registered a case.
