Attempt to target Chief Qazi of Bhatkal foiled, man brandishing revolver flees

Bhatkal: In a shocking incident, an unknown man tried to brandish revolver over senior Islamic scholar and chief Qazi of Bhatkal Jamaat-ul-Muslimeen, Maulana Muhammad Iqbal Mulla Nadvi at his residence in Madeena colony in Bhatkal on Saturday early morning.

According to family members, at around 4:45 AM, Maulana's wife, Ms Saadat Armar, was sitting on a chair in the hall, reciting the Holy Qur'an, during which suddenly a man tried to brandish a revolver from the window. 

As the woman was awake, she heard the sound from the window and noticed the hand with a revolver pointed inside the house. She loud her voice fearing the scene after which the family members woke up suddenly in shock. Until then, the man had escaped from the spot.

Soon after the incident was reported, General secretary of Majlise Islah Wa Tanzeem amongst others rushed to the Qazi's house and inquired about the incident. They then went to Bhatkal town police station and registered a case.

As the information spread in the region, hundreds of people gathered outside the police station. People also gathered at Qazi's house.

Upon receiving the complaint, DySP Arvind Kalgujji, Circle Inspector Prakash and other police personnel reached Maulana's house and collected the details. It is said that there were no CCTV cameras installed outside nearby houses. However, a bike entering National highway from Madeena colony was seen in a CCTV footage installed at a house on NH-66 around 4:47 AM.

The police have launched investigations and are collecting footages from CCTV cameras in the vicinity.
