Yallapur: A group of six to seven men allegedly attacked two friends traveling in a car towards Castlerock and made away with valuables worth around Rs 26 lakh that they were carrying.
Hanumant Gowdar (30) of Malaprabha Nagar in Dharwad and his friend Karthik Esunath Ulaganathan (39), a resident of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, were assaulted while they were near Castlerock when Rahul Bhimrao Shinde of Dharwad, Santosh Hiremath and others waylaid the car and assaulted them.
A gold chain worn by Hanumanth Gowdar (110 gm ), his gold bracelet (100 gm), Rs 1.45 lakh cash, gold i-phone worth Rs 5.75 lakh, another Samsung mobile phone, passport, ATM card and other valuables worth Rs 18 lakh were snatched. They also snatched 6,700 US dollars, 3,200 Malaysian ringgit, Rs 30,000 in cash, an old Rolex watch worth Rs 30,000, two mobile phones worth Rs 1.3 lakh, driving license, Malaysian IT card and other valuables worth Rs 8.3 lakh that Kartik had. In all, they made away with valuables worth Rs 26.3 lakh.
“After looting us, they tied our hands and legs and confined us to a deserted home in the deep forest. They threatened us to get Rs five crore or else they would kill us,” said a complaint lodged with Yallapur Police Station on Saturday.
DSP Ravi Naik, PSIs Aminsaab Attar and Manjunath Goudar are investigating the case.
