Mangalore: Rs 5 lakh cash and three mobile phones were robbed by a group of dacoits from an arecanut trader at gun point at Ivarrnadu in Bellare police station limits in Sullia taluk on Monday.
According to police, Abdul Khader carrying cash of Rs. 5 lakh was going in a car from Bellare to the shop in Guthigar with his three employees.
A gang of miscreants came in a SUV, intercepted the car that he was driving just 4kms from his residence. Five persons, including one who had covered his face with a mask, came out of the vehicle. One had a pistol while the others carried knives.
The police said the five persons allegedly threatened Mr. Khader and other passengers and asked him to hand over the bag containing the cash. They also took away the mobile phones that Khader and his co-passengers had. The stunned occupants failed to note down details of the getaway vehicle.
According to Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, they were speaking in Hindi, and we have certain clues and are working towards cracking the case. It appears that they were well versed with the topography of the area from the spot where they intercepted the car and made their quick getaway ostensibly towards Sullia and beyond, Borase said adding a case of dacoity and arms act has been registered in Bellare Police Station.
