Ankola: A five-year-old boy tragically lost his life after a sliding gate fell on him while he was playing in front of his house. The incident occurred on Wednesday in Kanasigadde, under the jurisdiction of Babruwada Gram Panchayat.
The deceased child has been identified as Azam, son of Javid Shaikh, a student of Ankola Urdu School. The tragedy struck after Azam returned home from school around 3:30 PM and began playing near the newly installed gate. It is reported that the gate broke and fell on him.
Azam was initially rushed to a private hospital in Ankola for treatment. However, due to severe head injuries observed by the local doctor, he was referred to Manipal Hospital. Unfortunately, the child succumbed to his injuries en route near Honnavar.
Azam was the youngest of three siblings, with two elder sisters. His father, a driver by profession, was supporting the family with a modest livelihood.
After a post-mortem at Ankola Government Hospital, the body was handed over to the family around 9 PM. The boy's burial took place at 11 AM on Thursday.
Ankola police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
