Karwar: Airstrip for landing mini aircrafts on the cards

Karwar: District In-charge Minister R V Deshpande informed that construction of airstrip for landing mini aircrafts will be taken up in the district soon.

Addressing the reporters after chairing a review meeting regarding basic facilities in Uttara Kannada district at the deputy Commissioner’s office in Karwar on Tuesday, he said, work would also begin on providing basic facilities for export of fish by constructing jetty, cold storage, ice plant and container movement.

The officer have visited ports and have been instructed to finalise either Tadadi or Honnavar port for this.

Deshapandey said that the state government has already given permission to construct a mini-airport for passenger service.
Officials have been asked to identify a suitable place for this. Five places have been identified for this, including the 795 acres of government forest land in Kumta taluk and a land in Manki.

A training and research centre of cashew will be established in Kumta, to give encouragement too industrialisation and commercial activities in the district. “We have identified three acres of land in Kumta, and an initial investment of Rs 1 crore of the total Rs 10 crore will given for this,” he said.
