Sirsi: "There is a target to provide LPG connections to around 90,000 families in Uttara Kannada district limits under the Pradhan Mantri Ujwal Yojana. To achieve the target in the given time period, gas agencies must provide 30000 gas connections," said MP Ananthkumar Hegde at a meeting of official’s cylinder distributors organized with regard to the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Ujwal Yojana in Sirsi recently.

Mr Hegde asked the gas distributors to work efficiently to ensure that the scheme reaches genuine people.

“The scheme, which was implemented with an aim to help the BPL people, must reach the common man. The scheme cannot be a success if there is no preparation. Therefore, the 26 working gas agencies of the district must pay much attention towards success of the scheme”, he said.

Mr Hegde said that the Panchayat Secretary and Development officers will be directed to extend co-operation for the success of the scheme. Apart from this, the list of beneficiaries will be finalized at a meeting to be held on July 15.  The meeting will be attended by the deputy commissioner and the tahsildar.

He said, nearly 2.51 lakh gas connections have been given in the district since 3 years. Now, another 90,000 connections have to be given to new beneficiaries. Therefore, a meeting of Revenue department, gas companies and gas agencies have to be held.  Every gram panchayat must be contacted and a list of beneficiaries must be obtained. This list must be submitted to Food and Civil Supplies Department Deputy director.  Each agency must be in-charge of nine gram panchayats in Uttara Kannada district. A blue print in this connection must be prepared within July 15”, he said.

Food and Civil Supplies Deputy Director PH Valgad, Tahsildar Basappa Pujari, Gas agencies Association President Basavaaraj Oshimath, HP Gas Company officer Abhijeet Rawat and others were present.
