Mangaluru: A head constable of Mangaluru city police, died after a futile attempt to escape from police custody on 25th March, Saturday.
According to the sources, he was facing charges under the POCSO Act. It is said by the police that Praveen (35 yrs), died during his attempt to bid an escape while he was being produced to the court.
He was attached to the Bajpe police station and reportedly tried to bid an escape by jumping from fourth floor of district court complex to the second floor.
He was immediately shifted to the Government Wenlock hospital, as he had incurred several injuries to his legs, waist and spine. But probably due to cardiac arrest, he could not be saved, said police sources.
Police are waiting for a forensic report.
Praveen was a native of Manjeshwar in neighbouring Kerala and was staying in a rented house around the Bajpe police station limits.
He was accused of filming an 11yr old girl and her mother while bathing. A complaint had been launched by the mother upon realizing about it. It resulted in Praveen losing his job and his phone was sent for forensic examination.
